The Louisiana Crawfish Farmers Association (LCFA) strives to be the primary resource, advocate and proponent for the crawfish industry.
It is a state-wide, private-sector "of the farmer, for the farmer" trade association. It is a duly recognized non-profit organization governed by an all-volunteer board of directors comprised of active crawfish farmers representing nearly 1500 crawfish farm operations across the state of Louisiana and is domiciled in St. Martinville, Louisiana.
The mission of the organization is to promote, develop, stimulate and encourage cooperation, education and understanding among crawfish farmers, related agricultural
and aquacultural businesses, researchers and educators, industry suppliers and vendors and elected officials and governmental agencies, as well as crawfish consumers everywhere.
The association is dedicated to
promoting and protecting the overall general welfare of the crawfish
industry in Louisiana.
Some of LCFA’s functions include:
· liaison with government agencies, such as LSU Ag Research & Extension, LA Department of Agriculture & Forestry, LA Office of Tourism
· network with allied associations such as LA Farm Bureau Federation, LA Travel Promotion Association
· interact and liaise with LA Crawfish Promotion & Research Board
· monitor local, state & national issues and legislation that may impact the industry
· publish Crawfish Tales magazine, & membership newsletter, Pinch of News
· produce annual Crawfish Farmer EXPO trade show.
· maintain the industry & consumer oriented website which includes a members only bulletin board for interaction & communication
· act as comprehensive clearing house for local, regional & national media
· involve crawfish consumers in the industry via the Crawfish Lover membership auxiliary
LCFA members have collaborated on research projects working with university, government & independent scientists on a variety of projects.
